There are a lot of marketing ideas for insurance agents out there that promises to make you standout from the Pavement Pete’s.
In this post, I will walk you through the five digital marketing ideas that I personally use in my agency.
Selling is the lifeblood of sales executives, like insurance agents. And now, they are facing the challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a career that relies heavily on face-to-face meetings with prospects and clients, they are now being forced to go digital.
The Coronavirus crisis has limited our physical interaction, and so one can be lost to how to reach their prospects or expand their list network. How can they know you exist and that you are ready to help them?
While some have already started embracing digital marketing to get leads and sales, this can still be challenging.
So, we here goes the top five digital marketing ideas for insurance agents:
1. Create your brand
One of the most important marketing ideas for insurance agents is your brand. Among a sea of insurance agents, you need to stand out. Your goal is to be the top-of-mind on your target market. How do you do that? Let us start with the basics:
Professional Logo
The logo is the first thing that your prospects see. It should look professional as it is a representation of you and your business. Take into consideration that you will be using this on different platforms, including website (if you plan to have one) and social media profiles.
Make a good impression and make it last.
Determine Your Voice
How do you want to represent your business? This is easier in face-to-face interaction, but online is a bit different. You see, you set your tone even BEFORE you talk to your prospects.
How do you want to present yourself on your messaging – in social media, for example? Are you a laid-back kind of person? Jolly and likes to joke around? Or are you a serious type?
This would highly depend on who are your target clients. That is why it is important that you have clarity on who you want to serve.
Optimize Your Profiles
People have a very short attention span online. One look on your profile, they can already decide whether they want to listen to you and know more about what you have to offer them.
So, in about 3 or 4 seconds, you should have said your message. And how do you that? Through an optimized profile. A well-optimized profile allows you to attract the right people — your ideal clients. That’s quality leads for you.
2. Use the power of social media.
If you are in sales and do not have social media presence yet, then you are missing a lot. Social media is a great platform to connect and engage with your prospects and clients.
In a research study by LIMRA, “51% of millennials and 32% of Gen X consumers use social media to find information on potential advisors.”
According to the same study, “Roughly, 85 million Americans use social media to learn more about financial advisors. Six in 10 of these consumers say they use social media sites to find information on financial services products and services or were looking for reviews on financial professionals.” (source: LIMRA, 2019)
This just shows how important it is to have a social media presence as an insurance agent.
3. Network Using LinkedIn
LinkedIn is also a social media platform, but I put it separately because LinkedIn is different from the rest. It is different because it is specifically designed for professionals and business owners.
While insurance brokers and agents have used the same marketing techniques for several years to build their networks and get leads – attending conferences, events, joining clubs, shaking hands, and handing business cards – the Internet has changed everything. It has provided us with the technology to make and manage connections.
Since most people are active online — especially mobile — insurance agents, brokers, and agencies should leverage this platform to connect and build their network.
4. Start creating your email list.
Email marketing is the oldest form of digital marketing, and still one of the most effective. Despite having various social media platforms and apps to communicate with others, the number of email users is still growing. As a matter of fact, there are 3.9 billion email users globally and is set to grow to 4.48 billion by the year 2024 (source: Statista). So, why not use it?
Why is email marketing important?
-
- It is the easiest and fastest way to communicate with your prospect and clients, especially if they do not text much. You can use this to convey information and schedule appointments.
-
- You can use email to nurture your prospects. It is a way of building relationships with them until they are finally ready.
-
- Email marketing has the highest ROI among other digital marketing strategies. Comparing it to dollar for dollar, email is more beneficial to marketers – yes, including social media.
-
- Email marketing also improves client retention.
5. Create your professional website.
In a 2018 study by LIMRA, half of the adults in the United States have visited a life insurance company website to look for information. About 1 out of 3 purchased or attempted to buy the insurance online. (source: Insurance Information Institute).
Your website is your storefront in the virtual world. It gives people the impression that you are a legit business and professional.
Invest in SEO to drive traffic
The thing is, you may have a website, but with thousands of other websites out there, how can your prospect find you?
Hence, if you have resources, I suggest investing in search engine optimization (SEO) to help your website rank in search engines. Doing so could greatly help drive quality traffic to your website. Having quality traffic means you attract the right type of people – your leads – and lead them to your website.
Create blogs
One way to use your website is to create content for your target audience. And for this, you use blogs. This is a good way to show your expertise, to build trust and credibility. Use blog articles to provide value to your prospects, helping them, and nurturing them until they are finally ready to make a purchase.
You can use this as well to your existing clients to continue serving them by giving tips and other valuable information.
